Preference given to:

  • Good level of fitness (5 - 6 hours of hiking with a full backpack)
  • Confident swimming skills

 

Proposed schedule:

December, 2005:

13th  - Fly Blacksburg to Christchurch (South Island)
15th - Arrive, spend day in Christchurch, visit University, visit City Recreation program
16th - Spend two nights on sheep farm, help muster
17th - Caving, followed by Southern Alp Hike
18th - Hiking in Alps
19th - Gold Mine
20th - Hamner Springs state forest park
21st - Kaikoura - whale watching,
22nd - Hike in Kaikoura ranges
23rd - Fly to Auckland, Auckland City
24th to 5th Jan - on your own, visit Corromandle beaches?

January, 2006:

6th - Auckland
7th - Sand Dunes
8th - Snorkeling in Marine Reserve
9th - Kayaking, Kauri Forest
10th - Mangrove Swamp and Historical Bay of Islands
11th - Bay of Islands boating
12th - Auckland and surroundings
13th - Fly Auckland to Blacksburg

 

Expected costs:

  • Flight - $1800
  • Transport, Accommodation, Attractions, Food for 18 days - $1500
