Graduate Study in Urban Forestry at Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech's Forestry Department offers M.S., PhD, and M.F. (Master's of Forestry) degrees. We are always interested in applications from highly qualified students. Urban Forestry is a multi-disciplinary field, and we enjoy working with qualified students from diverse backgrounds. Graduate funding, in the form of research or teaching assistantships, is available depending on current project funds. Applications can be submitted online at any time by visiting Virginia Tech Graduate Admissions. You can also telephone faculty with interests similar to yours to discuss your educational and career goals. Current research focus areas include:

  • stormwater abatement
  • urban rhizosphere ecology
  • landscape tree establishment
  • pruning for storm damage mitigation
  • modelling tree growth in ultra-urban areas
