Dr. Korine Kolivras, an assistant professor in the geography department at Virginia Tech, is a medical geographer with primary research interests in the study of social and environmental factors related to disease emergence using quantitative methods and geographic information systems (GIS). Most recently, Korine has examined social and environmental aspects surrounding the 2001-2002 dengue outbreak in Hawaii, and help-seeking behavior by residents of a shantytown in the Dominican Republic.
