  • Geographic patterns of disease and health care at various scales. Ecological, holistic approach to health problems emphasizes interrelationships of population-habitat-culture. Mapping of disease patterns and health services delivery and utilization.

If you have a particular interest in health and disease from a social science perspective, or you wish to take courses to complement a pre-med major, you may be interested in the Medicine and Society minor. Medical Geography is an elective for the minor.

GEOG 5214 - Health and the Global Environment (Spring 2010)

  • Examination of human-environment relations in the context of health and disease using a global perspective. Investigation of dynamic interaction between humans and the total environment, including the physical, biological, cultural, political, and economic environments, in relation to disease. Analysis of geographic variation in health, disease, and health care delivery, including differences between developed and developing regions and within a variety of human and physical environments.
