The mission of the International Forestry Center (IFC) in the Department of Forestry at Virginia Tech is to facilitate research and extension in international forestry. The Center draws on a wide range of faculty in all aspects of international forestry and provides a medium through which faculty and students at Virginia Tech can collaborate with the international forestry community.

To better participate in local and regional forestry issues the IFC works in partnerships with Governments, Universities, NGO's, and Communities throughout the world. The IFC is also involved in short and long term consultancies in international forestry development projects.

The current IFC research projects and consultancies cover the breadth of international forestry issues, including Forest Policy and Economics, Forest Management and Reduced Impact Logging, Community Forestry, Industrial Forestry, Agroforestry, and the Tropical Timber Trade.
