The Virginia Forest Landowner Short Course Series is an award-winning series of classroom and web-based courses for forest landowners and others interested in the sustainable management of Virginia's forest resources.  All courses in the series emphasize the benefits of professional assistance, management planning, water quality and soil protection, wildlife habitat protection, and sustainable forestry practices.  Landowners will learn practical forestry and wildlife management principles and techniques that can be applied to their own woodlands.

The course series is coordinated by the Virginia Tech Department of Forestry, and is sponsored and taught by local professionals from numerous natural resource agencies.  Courses are offered annually in approximately 12 locations throughout Virginia.  Most classroom-based courses are conducted over four evening sessions and total 12 hours of instruction.  All courses have been developed, tested, and improved based on input from hundreds of private forest landowners.  A materials fee is currently set at $20 to $50 (depending on location) per individual or couple and includes a comprehensive resource manual, other educational materials, and refreshments.

Current Short Courses include:

Additionally, we've partnered with Southern Regional Extension Forestry and Clemson's Master Tree Farmer Program to offer Virginian's an annual short course series. The 2007 series was titled "Preparing for the Next Owner". Notebooks, DVD's and videotapes of the series are available for sale at the Clemson Master Tree Farmer website. Stay tuned for the 2008 topic and series schedule.
