Program Information
This technical program is based entirely upon the needs and interests expressed by APSAF members. Speakers include subject matter experts from Virginia, west Virginia, North Carolina and Kentucky. They represent private industry, state, federal, and non-profit organizations. This program, from pre-conference through 12:00p.m. Friday, has been pre-approved for 11.5 SAF Category 1 CFE credits.

Pesticide Re-certification (2.5 Cat. 1 and 3.0 Cat. 2 SAF CFE Credits)
- Share current research-based information, enabling foresters to obtain pesticide re-certification credit for private and commercial pesticide applicator licenses. Topics covered will include forestry, aquatics, and utility rights-of-way. A seasoned forestry pilot will be on-hand to share application techniques and reflections. Stihl Chainsaw Factory Tour (2.0 Cat. 1 SAF CFE Credit)
- Tour the nearby Stihl Chainsaw factory for an overview of the production process. Two hours are allocated for logistics and travel, and two hours for the actual tour. Registration fee includes lunch at the factory. Tour will return in time for participants to attend the Cutting Edge Technology workshop.

From Omnipotence to Omnipresence
Dr. Argow will follow-up on Marty Luckert's controversial article in the September 2006 Journal of Forestry entitled "Has the Myth of the Onmipotent Forester Become the Reality of the Impotent Forester?" This article stressed that the role of professional foresters in the United States was not to tell the public how to manage their forests, but to manage according to society's goals.

Emerging Wood Markets
Mr. Brammer has been involved in the development and operation of three facilities in Virginia and North Carolina that use wood and wood wastes as their primary energy source. These projects include the 79.5 MW Dominion Power wood fueled facility in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Mr. Brammer will share his experience with-and concepts for-wood to energy initiatives.

The Effects of Parcelization on Forest Operations and Procurement Strategies
Dr. Bolding will discuss how forest industries and logging contractors can successfully adapt their procurement strategies and business models to changing landownership patterns. He will also share recent research regarding the effect of parcelization on forest operations.

How Climate Change is Creating New Markets
This presentation will address topics such as how climate change is creating new markets, society compensating landowners for the benefits provided by their properties, and how to determine what a carbon credit is worth, among others. Mr. Sampson is co-author of the September 2007 Journal of Forestry article entitled "The Role for Sustainably Managed Forests in Climate Change Mitigation".

**Due to wide array of activities in the vicinity, an official spouses tour has not been planned. The conference is located in City Center at Oyster Point. City Center is designed as an open-air gathering place and shopping district, landscaped in a southern living style with grand vistas to the breathtaking five acre fountain.
