Urban Forestry & Environment

Our research explores ways to maximize the environmental services and benefits provided by trees in urban and urbanizing settings in a scientifically sound and cost-effective manner. Urban Forestry is interdisciplinary in nature, and we place a high value on working with scientists from a wide array of fields, including engineering, soil science, horticulture, water resources, and many others. Contact one of our faculty to discuss current opportunities. Current research projects focus on:

• stormwater abatement
• urban rhizosphere ecology
• landscape tree establishment
• pruning for storm damage mitigation
• modeling tree growth in built environments
