International Programs for Students

Opportunities are available for students to spend a year or a semester abroad. Most faculty have international contacts and exchange agreements have been made with a number of universities overseas. Your academic advisor may be able to put you in touch with a variety of programs. In addition, Virginia Tech’s Education Abroad Office can help students find the opportunities that suit their needs.

Forestry has an established exchange program with the University of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia, the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, and Stellenbosch University in South Africa. The programs provide close course matches for Forest Resource Management and Industrial Forestry Operations students, resulting in minimal disruption to your program of study. (Read more about these programs.)  Contact Dr. Shep Zedaker, Forestry Exchange Coordinator for more information and application forms.

It is important to understand that agreements and procedures for all the universities we work with differ. Therefore each study abroad opportunity may be organized differently. It is highly recommended that you speak with your advisor, the Forestry Exchange Coordinator (Dr. Shep Zedaker) and the staff at Virginia Tech’s Education Abroad Office to learn about the best programs for you. Always plan early for study abroad (at least 9 months ahead) to avoid difficulties completing required coursework at Virginia Tech.
