Introduction
| FORSite
has been produced with funding provided by the Office of the Vice-Provost for
Outreach at Virginia Tech and the Virginia Forestry Educational Foundation.
The site is part of a larger program whose goals are to: 1) Improve Virginia school student's understanding of the forest community, 2) Enhance the leadership skills of Virginia Tech undergraduate students, 3) Improve technical assistance to citizens of the Commonwealth. |
|
| Schools participating in this forestry education
program will be provided with a wide range of technical assistance from Virginia
Tech's College of Natural Resources. First, we have provided this interactive
site which provides large amounts of information and interactive exercises on
trees and forests. Second, Virginia Tech students will provide schools with
on-site visits from the College of Natural Resources. During these
visits, school students will be provided with fun presentations on forest communities
and the uses of wood. They will also be assisted in tree identification
and other forestry skills (e.g. measuring tree height) necessary to complete the
scientific investigation portion of this program. Third, we have provided
links to Virginia Tech where you can interact directly with technical experts
in the College of Natural Resources. At any point in your study of trees
and forests you can ask questions and have discussions with professionals in the
College. |
We
hope you find this program useful and fun. We welcome your comments.
