Welcome Students!
This web page has been developed especially for you for the purpose of better familiarizing you with the trees and vegetation you see everyday. Trees and vegetation serve many valuable purposes and without them life on earth would not exist as we know it! This is no exaggeration! For exammple, the oxygen in the air we breath is a by-product of photosynthesis, the process by which plants supply themselves with energy. Also, trees and vegetation play a crucial role in holding soil in place against erosion - soil washed away by heavy rains is the single greatest pollutant effecting water quality of our rivers, streams, and lakes. There is so much to know about the trees that grow all around us, even just a little bit of knowledge increases our appreciation greatly.

Spring 2002
This web page uses a 360 degree virtual reality panoramic picture of the back of Mt. Pleasant Elementary School. The goal is to help you identify a few trees around the school and discuss a few ideas concerning trees and vegetation and their roles in the environment. The pictures that make up the panoramic scene were taken from the middle of the baseball field in the winter and spring of 2002.
Go to the panorama (the panorama is rather large, you can explore the Mt Pleasant School yard another way).
Why is it so hard to be a tree in the city?
