Leaf: Short, scale-like, 1/16 to 1/8 inch long, several occur in a whorl at nodes, green.
Flower: Light brown; males occur in slender spikes at branch tips; females occur in round clusters near base of branchlets.

Fruit: Cone-like, round, with numerous pointed scales, 1/2 to 3/4 inch in diameter, reddish brown.

Twig: Slender, hanging, green, covered tightly in scale-like foliage, older branches become scaly and gray-brown.
