Description: Narrowleaf ash is a common component of the Mediterranean forests of southern Europe and north Africa and it is commonly planted in other parts of the world. However, it is still an uncommon ornamental in the US - despite its elegance, lacy foliage, and rich fall color. An interesting morphology note: most ashes are oppositely arranged (the leaves and buds are in pairs on the stem) but narrowleaf ash leaves are usually whorled (the leaves are in 3's).
