Description: Some taxonomists separate white fir into two distinct species; A. lowiana of California and A. concolor of Oregon and the Rocky Mountains. While most firs are very intolerant of heat and drought, white fir somewhat tolerates these conditions, and it is generally considered the most site tolerant fir. White fir is planted ornamentally, and it makes an excellent Christmas tree. Go ahead and break one of the fleshy needles. They smell like tangerines!

While you are visiting the white fir, notice the adjacent Douglas-fir. These two beautiful trees are commonly found together in the Rocky Mountains.
