Forestry Major
Nicholas Povak npovak@vt.edu I worked in Central Massachusetts at the Harvard Forest this summer. The Harvard Forest is one of 24 Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) stations that are located througout the country. The program I was involved in was called Research Experience For Undergraduates (REU). There were 22 REUs all together working under different researches at the Harvard Forest. I worked with one other REU studying the distribution of the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid in central Massachusetts and its effect on overstory and understory composition. Our worked used basic forest ecology skills such as prism points, diameter and height measurements, and 20X20 meter plots to study understory composition.
