LAMB RECEIVES GOTTSCHALK
AWARD FROM FOREST PRODUCTS SOCIETY
BLACKSBURG,
July 28, 2003 - Fred Lamb, professor
emeritus and Extension specialist
in the Department of Wood Science
and Forest Products at Virginia
Tech, recently received the Fred
W. Gottschalk award from the Forest
Products Society at its annual
meeting in Bellevue, Washington.
Lamb
retired from Virginia Tech in
2002 after a long and distinguished
career in the department where
he was internationally known for
his work in primary and secondary
processing of wood. Lamb is a
noted wood drying expert and taught
a wood drying short course in
Virginia and throughout the mid-
Alantic for many years.
The
Gottschalk Award is the highest
honor awarded by the society to
a member for exceptional service
to the Forest Products Society
and the profession. The award
is in memory of Fred W. Gottschalk,
the first president of the society,
who died in a plane crash in Salt
Lake City in 1965.
Lamb
is the author of over 140 publications
and has made over 135 presentations
at national and international
conferences on wood, wood drying,
and wood processing. He holds
the B.S. and M.S. in Wood Technology
and an Ed.D. in Continuing Education
Administration from Penn State
University. He is a member of
the Forest Products Society, Society
of Wood Science and Technology,
American Association of Adult
and Continuing Education, and
the International Association
of Wood Anatomists. He has been
a member of the Forest Products
Society since 1959.
