Basswood (Linden)

Basswoods have a heart-shaped leaf with small fragrant flowers. They are only indirectly important to wildlife since very few animals directly eat the twigs, foliage, flowers or fruit. Instead, basswood enters the food chain through the insects that feed on the leaves and bark.
