Notes: This elm is a SURVIVOR--- it has not sucumbed to Dutch Elm disease--- it is locatead in the middle of the city of Richmond in not very favorable conditions--it has survived a significant lighting strike and is healing over a hollow from the strike. Because its canopy is so vast it overhangs neighboring properties and drops debris on yards. Since this tree is in the middle of the Fan District in the backyard of a house built in 1894, it has seen many families come and go and survived droughts and hurricanes. Being recognized as a remarkable tree may help neighbors appreciate the tree. |
